Context
El cannabis en Colombia
The cannabis market is a disruptive sector that in the global economy has achieved an accelerated positioning in recent years. Nowadays, countries such as Australia, Canada, Denmark, Ecuador, Israel, Germany, Mexico, Peru, Netherlands, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Uruguay and, of course, Colombia (which has comparative advantages) have regulations on cannabis, whether medical or industrial.
Normally, because it is a narcotic drug, the cannabis industry is highly regulated, since the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs directs countries that allow the use of cannabis to require periodic licenses and permits.
Context
In the Colombian nation, Legislative Act 002 of 2009 opened the way for the medical and scientific use of cannabis in Colombia, a situation that was regulated by the Law 1787 of 2016 and later by the Decree 613 of 2017, which has allowed the creation of a new market within the framework of legality in which entrepreneurs can economically exploit this product in the medical and industrial fields.
However, the Decree 613 of 2017 was repealed by the Decree 811 of 2021, improving market conditions, including industrial and food uses of cannabis derivatives, activities within free zones, the export of dried flower from the cannabis plant and the simplification of some formalities.
